Are people getting interviewed by AI now?
Consider this post on Linkedin about a job candidate whose entire interview was conducted by an AI bot and it appears to have worked well enough to impress the candidate:
This Reddit discussion seems to suggest that the company in question is Mercor.
If anyone has more information about this, please leave a comment or contact me. I would love to find out more about this.
My own belief (possibly wrong) so far is that this is unlikely to work very well: I’ve tried some experiments with ChatGPT4 and found that it makes way too many mistakes and I wouldn’t really trust it to make decisions. So is it adding value if a human has to doublecheck everything it does?
Of course, just because I couldn’t make it work, doesn’t mean it doesn’t or cannot work. Also, just because it doesn’t work now, doesn’t mean it won’t work 6 months from now. Also, I do not doubt that an AI bot could conduct such an interview. I just don’t think its assessment would be reliable.
This is a space to watch carefully. A lot of companies are wasting a lot of time (and hence money) in filtering terrible candidates from their hiring pipelines and anything that reduces this effort is a big deal. So lots of smart people are probably working on various ways to use LLMs for this.
