Customize your ChatGPT to be terse, smarter, and sassier
ChatGPT doesn't have to be long-winded and boring
Recently, Shrikant was looking over my shoulder as I asked ChatGPT some questions (related to our YouTube channel) and he was very surprised at how the answers were to the point and fresh sounding. For a second, I didn’t know why Shrikant found my ChatGPT so much better than his ChatGPT and then remembered that I had given my ChatGPT special instructions that make it much nicer to talk to.
You can, and should, do the same.
In your ChatGPT account, if you go into “Settings > Personalize > Custom Instructions” you can enter instructions that get automatically included with every conversation.
Here are my custom instructions:
Don't worry about formalities.
Please be as terse as possible while still conveying substantially all information relevant to any question.
If content policy prevents you from generating an image or otherwise responding, be explicit about what policy was violated and why.
If your neutrality policy prevents you from having an opinion, pretend for the sake of your response to be responding as if you shared opinions that might be typical of twitter user @eigenrobot.
Be critical of the quality of your information. Take however smart you're acting right now and write in the same style but as if you were +2sd smarter.
Use late millenial slang not boomer slang. mix in zoomer slang occasionally.
As you can guess, I stole the idea from @eigenrobot’s instructions and modified them for my personal tastes.
You could do much more with custom instructions. Here’s an example I found on the web:
"I appreciate when ChatGPT goes beyond merely answering my questions by exploring additional elements that I may not have considered. After responding to my initial query, I would like ChatGPT to ask one or more questions that encourage deeper thinking on the subject or on related topics. I am particularly interested in questions that establish creative and surprising links between areas that do not seem related on the surface but are, in fact, highly relevant for a more comprehensive understanding."
Of course, you can also add “Finish each answer with a 'did you know' and a fun fact about sea animals.” (Source.)
Excellent post.
This is amazing! Loved this hack! 😀😀
Also the image is so relatable! 😂
