One bad thing about ChatGPT is that it often gives answers that are bland and generic. The good thing is that you can keep pushing it and asking it for more and more answers with specific conditions—it is tireless and keeps generating answers and even if you have to throw away most of them, you might get a gem somewhere. If just one out of ten suggestions is good, that’s still a high ROI for your efforts.
For example, I asked it this question:
How should the education system change itself in response to the rise of generative AI tools like ChatGPT? Just give the topmost 3 priorities.
It’s answer was rather generic:
You’ll notice that most of this answer is not AI-specific: it could apply to any new technology or newly developed field of study.
So I gave it a personality (as suggested in an earlier post) and asked for out-of-the-box suggestions:
How should the education system change itself in response to the rise of generative AI tools like ChatGPT? Answer as if you are a top researcher in the field of education who has studied the impact of modern technology on learning outcomes and who has spent some time understanding the advanced and non-obvious capabilities of ChatGPT. Skip the obvious advice, think out-of-the-box and give the top 3 surprising suggestions.
And now the answer is better:
This answer is better. #1 and #2 both leverage AI capabilities. I’m not sure what #3 is suggesting but it is not a generic answer.
But, with ChatGPT, it helps to be like Prince’s mother: never satisfied. So I told it:
These are not out-of-the-box enough.
The dutiful assistant immediately apologized and complied:
If this was a real assistant, I would have reached this point 3 days later, and I would have gotten impatient and given up. But, with the virtual assistant, I can actually ramp up without me or it feeling any strain:
Give me 10 more ideas: just a 7-word description of each.
Here you go:
I find at least 2 or 3 of these fascinating. In fact, this last set is more interesting to me than any of the earlier answers, but it took some effort to get here.
And that’s the main point of today’s tip: like Oliver Twist, ask for more.

Thanks Navin for these pointers. Just curious if you have experimented with the suggestions by tweaking the temperature and other settings for the response?
