Every time I give a talk on GenAI and ChatGPT, I find that almost everybody uses the free version of ChatGPT (i.e. ChatGPT3.5). And, not surprisingly, they find it only mildly useful in their work. Many people have stopped using ChatGPT after the initial novelty wore off.
This is a mistake.
The primary reason they don’t find ChatGPT very useful is that the free version1 is not very good. Its logic+reasoning is not good enough and it has limited capabilities.
Which is why I am taking an entire post to repeat my most important recommendation: get the paid subscription. (Or use Bing Copilot (see footnote 1 below).)
ChatGPT4 allows you to upload PDF documents and talk to the documents. It allows you to upload spreadsheets and do complex analyses on the data. It allows you to upload photos, images, and scans of handwritten notes and diagrams and answer questions related to them or create content based on them. For complex math or logic questions it can write programs, run them, and use the output in its answer, which results in far fewer mistakes than just regular ChatGPT.
ChatGPT costs roughly ₹2000 per month ($20 per month + GST). The others have similar costs.
I’ve talked about ChatGPT because that’s what I’m most familiar with. But the others, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Opus and Google’s Gemini Pro are also supposed to be almost as good. And, as mentioned earlier, there’s Bing Copilot too. Each having some strengths and weaknesses compared to the others. Gemini is excellent at summarizing YouTube videos and allowing you to ask questions to videos. Claude3 is better at logic+reasoning and writing programs.
In any case, all these are far better than the free alternatives.
If you can afford it, get a subscription. If you can’t, try to convince your company or boss to pay for it or subsidize it.
You owe it to yourself to use the best GenAI programs in your day-to-day work and life.
Bing Copilot (earlier known as Bing Chat) is one way you can get GPT4 for free. To use Bing Copilot, you need to create a free Microsoft account. And, when using Bing/Chat, make sure to pick the “More Creative” or “More Precise” mode to get GPT4 quality: in the “More Balanced” mode, it falls back to GPT3.5. One disadvantage is that the questions can only be 2000 characters, which is much lower than others, and which disallows some use cases.
Bing Copilot is available for free and it uses ChatGPT 4.
Use Chaturji.ai and get GPT4, Claude 3, Gemini Pro all for free (for a limited time). Easily compare which one gives the best results for you.
